Demme Alexander

Hello, my name is Demme Alexander. I am currently an online LLB student in my final year based in Canada. Being an online student, it has given me a unique view of the different challenges that international students face. The feelings of being disconnected from the student community and being unsure where to turn leads to many of us isolating ourselves. I personally know these feelings all too well. There have been times where I’ve felt like an outsider in my own community and has lead me to struggle with imposter syndrome with the thoughts of not being a “real” student. As time passes, I’ve come to learn that I am not alone with these feelings. With this experience I am motivated to step forward. I have volunteered and worked outside of school in environments that required leadership, teamwork, and communication. I learned how to connect to people, build relationships, and help others achieve their goals as a result of these encounters. Why do you think you are a good fit? Leading this role would be a passionate commitment for me as I understand the challenges of what an online international student may face. Pursuing a degree while feeling alone is difficult. Everything changes by creating a support system. I am committed to be that change. I have developed my skills through work and volunteer experiences that fit this role. I know how to organize, lead, and motivate people. I can help when it comes to dealing with different needs and perspectives as I am patient and responsive. Whenever challenges come my way as a student, I sought practical solutions. Through this approach it has shaped my ability to listen, identify the issue, and take the initiative to strategize a plan that brings in real results. With this I know that I am a problem solver. Students deserve a representative who will listen and take action into their concerns. I will strive to ensure that online international students feel connected and supported during their studies. What are your ambitions for the role? As the international student representative - online, my aim is to create a stronger sense of community. I will be focusing on these three areas:Secondly, by organizing campaigns focusing on the students wellbeing. E.g Workshops or peer discussion groups regarding imposter syndrome and how to overcome it, and resources guides on balancing life as an online international student. And lastly, pushing for a more accessible resources for the online community. I will be incorporating mental health services, study support as well as communication regarding academic opportunities. With these steps I will help ensure students to feel more engaged and less alone in the online community. My goal is to ensure that I am able to help even if it’s just one student.

Eva Lee

Hello, I’m Eva, and I’m running for International Student Rep. I’ve been living, studying, and working abroad for about 13 years, with nearly 10 of those years in the UK. I know first-hand what it’s like to be an international student—arriving in a new country, adapting to a different culture, missing family, and later trying to build a career here.I’m currently studying the PGDL at Moorgate London. Before this, I studied Fashion Design in London, which was a completely different but equally competitive field. Moving from fashion into law has been a big leap, so I can relate to anyone making a similar transition into something new and challenging.I’d love to support fellow international students in finding their place at ULaw, both socially and academically. I’m someone who listens, cares, and wants to make sure no one feels left behind. I hope to use my experiences to make your journey here a little easier — plus, I know all the good food spots to keep us going along the way! Why do you think you are a good fit? I believe I’d make a strong International Student Rep because I’ve been through the journey myself. Having spent nearly a decade as an international student and graduate in the UK, I understand not only the challenges we face during our studies but also the worries about what comes after graduation. I’ve gone through the struggles of settling in, finding belonging, and navigating career options. Because of this, I can genuinely connect with students who may be feeling the same. Coming from a non-law background also means I understand the pressure of starting something completely new, and I can be a relatable support for others making similar transitions. What I bring to this role is empathy, patience, and determination. Friends often turn to me for support, and I’d like to extend that to the wider international student community. I want to make sure our voices are heard and our experiences valued across ULaw. What are your ambitions for the role? If elected, my main aim is to ensure that international students feel supported, connected, and ready for what comes after ULaw. Too often, our unique challenges—whether social or career-related—don’t receive enough attention, even though we make up a large part of the student body.My first goal is to help create a stronger sense of community. Being far from home can feel isolating, especially during stressful times. I want to build peer networks, social activities, and support spaces where international students can meet, share, and feel part of something bigger. My second goal is to push for more open conversations about careers. Visa issues, equal opportunities, and long-term planning are rarely discussed during our studies, yet they are crucial for our future. I want to advocate for clearer guidance and practical resources so every international student can feel prepared and confident about their next steps.
