Get to know a little more about the SU staff team, and feel free to say hello!
The Students' Union is run by a small team of dynamic and dedicated staff and student officers. As a department of the University of Law, we are governed by both the University Executive Team with further oversight from the Students' Union Governing Board.
Our elected Co-Presidents ensure we are student-led, whilst their work and other activities of the SU are supported by the Students' Union Manager and a team of operational coordinators.
To get in touch, follow the links under each staff member below, or for general enquiries email studentsunion@law.ac.uk.
The SU Manager is responsible for the Union’s governance and finance, ensuring that we are legally compliant, and that all of our policies are up-to-date. They also oversee our strategic plan and Key Performance Iindicators (KPIs), and ensure the full operation of our Governing Board and Student Parliament.
Day-to-day, they project manage all our major events and line manage the rest of the SU team who do a fantastic job managing their areas and supporting students. We are always looking for ways to improve your student experience, so if you have any suggestions or feedback, please get in touch!
I come from a background in policy and student representation and love seeing students setting up new projects and making the most of their time at University. I have worked with the Office for Students (previously HEFCE) and the Quality Assurance Agency since 2017 in a range of positions, including as a Quality Assurance Reviewer. I also work as an Associate Consultant with Blackshaw Management Consultancy, working on short-term support and review projects throughout the wider sector. My previous roles in Students’ Unions have seen me managing all areas of membership services and setting up new initiatives to improve employability skills.
I am also a qualified British Sign Language tutor and teach in my spare time. Outside of work, I am a board game and jigsaw fanatic, enjoy taking the odd adult ballet class and have two children (Matilda and Arthur) who keep me busy!
The Student Advice Coordinator provides independent, confidential support and looks out for students’ best interests including:
I have a degree in English and for the past three years, I've been working at the University, where I've gained experience in various roles, from behind-the-scenes work to directly supporting students.
When I'm not working, you can usually find me with my nose in a book, tackling a word search, or trying out new recipes in the kitchen. My two kids, Nai and Kays, and our Sproodle, Willow, certainly keep life interesting!
The Clubs and Societies Coordinator supports student groups across ULaw to provide communities and socialise including:
During my studies, I worked at my universities' SU to help raise student voices and make some positive changes to student experiences. I also created and ran a Horror Society!
I have also worked at the Museum of Science and industry as an Engagement Officer! In that role, I got to meet lots of wonderful people and work alongside lots of different communities.
Outside of work, I love enjoying a good afternoon tea and trying new hobbies such as baking and crocheting, no matter how difficult I find them!
The Student Engagement Coordinator ensures support for student representatives and committees including:
Before I joined the University of Law, I studied History at the University of Leeds, and achieved both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in the subject. At Leeds I was also involved in student advocacy initiatives, from open days to international study abroad fairs to academic peer mentoring. I also studied History and Politics in Pennsylvania, USA, and as such have a particular sensitivity to the needs of international studies. I also occasionally tutor History in my spare time. I enjoy walking, reading and travelling.
The Academic Representation Coordinator ensures feedback and development opportunities including:
Before joining the University of Law, I taught A level Politics for 7 years before moving away from teaching and into the world of Students' Unions, working at Canterbury Christ Church Students' Union. While working there, I supported students studying at their satellite campus.
I studied BSc (Hons) Social Sciences and I also have a MA in Multimedia Journalism, both from the University of Kent. I also completed two years of PhD study before having to quit for financial reasons, so I understand the financial pressures facing students today.
Outside of work, I enjoy cycling, walking, travelling and cooking.
The Governance and Policy Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the Students' Union's policies and processes are up-to-date and high quality. Their day-to-day role includes:
I stumbled into the Higher Education sector and fell in love with it. Having gone to the University of Keele through clearing, I spent two years as a Sabbatical Officer focused on Teaching and Learning. I went on to manage Student Voice work at the University of Chester Students' Union before arriving at the University of Law. I have worked with a number of sector bodies, including the Quality Assurance Agency, Office for Students, and Universities UK in a number of governance and policy related roles - and have even visited universities internationally to share best practice.
I love music and regularly go to festivals and concerts, my favourite animals are Geese, and I have an unhealthy addiction to Diet Coke. I do all of the above to procrastinate doing my PhD in Education Policy.
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for sharing our work with students, staff and the public including:
I have worked in many SU roles over the years, starting as a student receptionist and progressing through student voice, communications and community support, mostly in Aberystwyth which is where I studied my degree. I’ve also held roles in universities such as fundraising, alumni relations and digital project management.
I spend most of my free time looking after pets and garden and I enjoy a variety of creative outlets such as painting and sculpting as well as digital art and graphic design.
