What we do, starts with you!
The SU is keen to empower students to form communities and make connections in a way that suits you. If you'd like to get the ball rolling on new activities and events, or form a space to meet people with similar interests, we look forward to hearing from you!
Support is available for new ideas accross all of our community work. The first step might be as simple as getting in touch. We're happy to chat about your ideas, whether it's requesting a new activity, community chat, or even setting up a new student group.
su-communities@law.ac.ukIf you would like to run a one-off or series of new activities or events to bring together communities or people with a similar interest, the SU can help fund your idea through our community request box!
If you would like to run a community event or activity, the first step is to fill out the form below. We're happy to chat about your ideas and support you with running community events and activities
Community Request BoxGroups are a great way to meet students with similar interests, and founding a new one can be extremely rewarding!
The first step to starting a new group can be as simple as getting in touch and asking for some help. To get started, we recommend that you get three students together to form a student group, however you can form a committee group with just two students.
If you have a student group idea but are struggling to get a committee together, we can help connect you with other students who might want to get involved through the 'Grow a Group' initiative.
Whenever you're ready to share your new group, you can fill out our Club/Society Application Form.
Please allow 2 weeks for your application to be approved. Once approved you will be asked to complete some online training, which you can complete in your own time and then take a quiz. You will need a score of 7/10 to pass.
Once you have completed the training, your student group will be officially recognised, and you will be given all the information you will need to run Student Group events and activities.
Community chats are relatively easy to set up within our 'Team'. On the MS Teams platform, a Team is a dedicated space for organising multiple people, channels and resources.
The SU currently owns two Teams open to any student; SU Community Chats – Academic, and SU Community Chats – Identity and Interest.
Each of these teams contains a number of 'Channels' or chats, these serve as categories for areas of discussion and engagement.
Similar to online forums or social media feeds, messages and posts each have their own comment thread to help make replies and updates easier than many common messaging apps.
Students are welcome to request their own Team if they think it will be useful, however are reminded that general group chats and channels within existing teams might be more suitable depending on the purpose. ULaw IT reserve the right to deny a new Team request should a similar Team or Channel exist that is open to the user.
