Remember your SU is here for you, please reach out if you need to talk. Our Co-Presidents and Staff Team are available to chat, and our Independent Advice Service is available for direct support with processes like submitting an Extensions, Deferrals and Mitigating Circumstances (EDMC) application.

The article below is shared from the ULaw Student Hub and shares some helpful guidance if you have any concerns about the impact on your studies or wellbeing:

Many of you will have seen the reports of the devastating flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border, and the significant humanitarian impact on those affected. We are aware that a number of our students come from that region and are currently preparing some FAQs about potential impacts on those who are due to enrol as well as those who are already studying with us.

Even for those of us without direct connections to the area such news can be hugely distressing. We’d therefore like to take this opportunity to remind you that, whatever your individual circumstances, the University and our partners are here to support you.

Support with your studies

  • For help and support on any matter related to your studies at ULaw (including if think you may need to take a break from your course and have concerns regarding your visa), please reach out to your Student Journey Advisor at studentjourney@law.ac.uk (or your Skills Coach if you are an Apprentice). They will be able to signpost you to the relevant academic help and support as required.
  • Our dedicated International Advisors can provide additional support and advice and co-ordinate support from other services. You can contact them by email at internationaladvice@law.ac.uk.
  • If you are currently or soon-to-be undertaking assessments, and feel that you will be unable to perform your best due to distress or anxiety, you can submit an Extensions, Deferrals and Mitigating Circumstances (EDMC) application to request a deferral or coursework extension. The EDMC section of the Student Hub has the key information you need, including what evidence you can use to support your application and when you can expect to hear back.

Wellbeing support

Your safety and wellbeing is our primary concern, and we can support you in a variety of ways.

Student Wellbeing Advisor

There is a Student Wellbeing Advisor at each ULaw campus (including dedicated support for online students) with whom you can discuss any wellbeing concerns. They are a great source of practical information and 1:1 advice and can refer you on to specialist services both within the University and in the local area where relevant. You can contact your local Advisor by completing the self-referral form and selecting ‘Student Wellbeing as the enquiry type.

Students’ Union

The Students’ Union is also here for you during this difficult time. Janaid and Sara, your Co-Presidents, are ready to listen and address your concerns, give you a voice and represent your interests to the University. If you feel they can be of help, please don’t hesitate to contact them at StudentsUnion@law.ac.uk.

SpectrumLife Student Assistance Programme

SpectrumLife provides a confidential, on-demand support service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact them about anything, including stress, anxiety, grief, loss and much more. There is a confidential helpline, an online chat function or you can request a callback.

  • Call free from within the UK (0800 031 8227) or from anywhere in the world (00 353 1518 0277) excluding Canada and USA - calls charged at standard international rates
  • WhatsApp: Text “Hi” to +44 7418 360 780
  • Download SpectrumLife from the App Store or Google Play

ULaw Wellbeing App

Our ULaw Wellbeing App is another option and includes contact details for ULaw support services and a range of local and national support agencies within the UK. You can download the app for free from the App Store or Google Play.

Togetherall

Togetherall is a safe, online community where people support each other anonymously – a community for shared experiences and mutual support. The platform promotes a sense of belonging and connection through community and is accessible anywhere, anytime 24/7.

Join/login to Togetherall. (You can also select the ‘Community’ tab in the ULaw Wellbeing app.)

Support the community

This is a difficult time, and we ask everyone to be respectful and supportive of each other.

  • If you feel unsafe at all, whether on or off campus, use the Emergency function in the SafeZone app (available for free from the App Store or Google Play) to contact Campus Security (on campus) or the Emergency Services (off campus).
  • If you do not have SafeZone and feel unsafe when off campus, call 999

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you feel you need to do so.
