The Student Association Development
In order to obtain more feedback from students, it was apparent the Association needed to develop much more rigorous processes and focus on growth. With this in mind, the Association started by conducting a review of all of its voluntary officer roles, for example, the Vice-Presidents.
After reviewing and simplifying our job descriptions, we saw our highest ever rate of applications and this year we had the most voluntary roles filled in order to hear more of your voices. For the first time ever, our voluntary officers were also trained by myself at Student Parliament, enabling them to fully understand their role and work to the best of their ability.
To develop further, I made efforts to build a strong relationship with our brand team; this meant we could advertise ourselves using their social media channels to access more of the student body. This meant filming various campaigns, including but not limited to: the We Support Your Ambition campaign, Why Kindness Matters campaign, Instagram Takeovers, Facebook Lives and producing Introductions to the Student Association videos for open days. By connecting so closely with the university marketing team, we have been able to increase our own following across all channels by more than 50% which led to a direct increase of Student feedback for us to act upon.
The Student Association have also developed a much more in-depth Strategic Plan for 2020/21 which focuses on department development to ensure we capture the highest level of student voice; this includes an extensive focus on online development to make sure we are accessible for all of our students.
