May 2024
Attended a working group on improving Student-Staff Liaison Committee Meetings as well as weekly TEDx project meetings.
Chaired the International Student Voice Committee and attended weekly InspireX meetings with the ULaw InspireX Project Manager.
Attended the Spring ULaw Graduation Ceremony and provided a speech to our graduating students. You can watch it at the 58:15 mark of this video: https://www.youtube.com/live/Si6xyKaVpXU?si=teVeBgziqMYcQQtp&t=3495
The SU Manager and Co-Presidents presented the SU strategy as well as the Co-presidents achievements in the previous year to the Board of Directors.
We attended and participated in the SU Annual General Meeting 2024 which happens every year with the aim of communicating with students the direction the SU is heading as well as what we have been doing in the past year.
Chaired the first Employability Student Voice Committee (ESVC) which is open to all students and representatives and aims to provide a space where students can give feedback regarding any employability matter to senior employability staff.
I reviewed and sent feedback/suggestions for additions to the British Council Agenda Hub Accommodation Content. The accommodation content is part of the Agent and Counsellor training certificate, and the training is for agents so that they have improved knowledge and understanding of the UK education experience and are better able to advise and prepare their students.
Organised and held our first-ever meeting with the BPP University Students’ Association. BPP and ULaw are very similar in terms of the amount and locations of our campuses as well as the types of courses that we provide. A closer relationship would provide us with opportunities for joint events and competitions between our students.
The Co-Presidents attended Birmingham Pride 2024! It is crucial that we take part to enhance LGBTQ+ visibility, provide solidarity and promote equal rights for everyone. It was very well organised and we had a wonderful time!
The Co-Presidents held a series of handover meetings with the incoming Co-Presidents, Uche and Peter. The SU must have a robust handover process between presidents to ensure a smooth transition.
I provided a voice recording to be used for an animated video in the university's International Student Guide. Super grateful to be able to contribute to making our International students' journey to the UK and getting settled a little bit easier.
We organised a financial literacy workshop for our students hosted by the University Money and Housing team. This was coupled with a social media campaign where we explained financial terms, recommended books and well as providing money-saving tips. Please follow us on @ulawstudents on Instagram for more campaigns and posts.
