Pedram Co-President - July 2022 Update

Monday 15-08-2022 - 11:00

Hey, Nice to meet you. My name is Pedram. I am one of your Students' Union Co-Presidents this year. One of my main goals as a president is to be open and transparent with you and to maintain regular contact with you as a Ulaw student. With this open dialogue, the SU will learn about issues and concerns you face and can represent your voice to the University.

What have I been doing in July?

I met with campus deans, student info teams, the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor, and countless other staff working in different departments across the University. These meetings helped to familiarise me with the University structure so that I achieve my manifesto goals.

The SU team and I met face-to-face to coordinate what the Students' Union will be doing in the upcoming year, from Freshers to the SU awards. September, October and November will be extremely packed. It is some of the most fun months for us because we will be meeting you on your campuses at Freshers. Please come and join us if your campus is having a physical freshers fair so we can get to know you. As a student going to my first freshers, I was so nervous. I had no idea what was going on and the extent of support that the SU and University were able to provide for me. I promise you that I will do my best so that you will leave your freshers with a great understanding of the University, what is available to you and who you can contact if you become unsure about something.

Lastly, I spoke with some other presidential candidates from the election that I was successful in. I wanted them to have an opportunity for their ideas to be heard. They informed me their classmates were confused about their exam/grade appeal mechanisms and how important it is for students to know what options they have if they wanted their grades to be re-evaluated, wanted to receive feedback from the exams or, more generally, had any complaints to make. Furthermore, they shared the sentiment that the visibility of the SU is of utmost importance because if the students do not know that we exist, how can they come to us and ask us for our support and help? Therefore, we will be as visible as possible across all Ulaw campuses.

Thank you for reading my July update. Please let me know if you have any feedback for me, questions about the President role, or issues that you are facing in the University.
