2-day Team Planning

Met up with the rest of the SU team to plan for next year. We planned the next SU Award ceremony, a SU trip to the Berlin Campus, ULaw Leagues in February, Campus visits in January, National Union of Students conference and many more. It was amazing meeting up with the team in person and building the SU family together.

Nottingham Campus Visit and Christmas Gathering

All thanks to the brilliant work of one of our reps, Peter Nnakee and the Nottingham Student Info team, I had the most brilliant time at the Nottingham Campus. We were able to bring the students out of their workshops, downstairs for a wholesome Christmas party! There was pizza, drinks and Peter and I met with many staff and students, getting to really know them and their student experience. Nottingham is a big campus with a small student population. But because of that small size, everybody knows each other. I really felt the ULaw spirit and family during my visit, and cannot wait to go back soon!

Recipe Document

I made a document for ULaw Recipes, a cost of living idea where I have put together recipes from all over the world that are easy to make and less expensive than eating at a restaurant. All the wording for the website and a student submission survey has now been published! Students can even submit their own recipes to be added to it. Hopefully, this document will keep getting updated until we have 100 dishes from around the world!

Birmingham Campus Christmas Gathering

It was great meeting many of you at the Birmingham campus Christmas gathering and speaking to you about the cost of living crisis and what could be done to combat it. Thank you to all of you who signed the huge Christmas card to the Midlands Mayor requesting cheaper public transportation costs for students!

Visiting West Midlands Mayor Office

In collaboration with BCU and other Birmingham Universities, we took two huge Christmas cards that were physically signed by 100 students to the Mayor Office and gave them to his secretary. We also sang (perfectly, may I add) some Christmas carols right outside his office window. Public transportation costs are a big hurdle for students in the UK and we have to pay for this service every single day to get to University, a service that a lot of the time is not on time and some days not even functioning. We deserve better.

Meet up with the UCB SU Executive Team

After the Mayor Office, I caught up with the amazing SU team at University College Birmingham. It was great talking about their challenges, ways that they have dealt with it and comparing it with our SU situation. They gave me lots of helpful tips about how to deal with SU obstacles and helped me gauge what the situation is with other SU’s around the Midlands. Lots more initiatives and collaborations to come!
