An introduction to the University’s hardship funds

The University has a range of hardship funds available for students facing unex-pected financial difficulty. While the administrative process in applying for these may seem daunting, these funds are here to be used - so please do not be afraid of reaching out if you think you may be eligible.

Study Support Fund

The Study Support Fund offers support for living costs to students facing unex-pected financial difficulties, such as unforeseen expenses or loss of income. The maximum payments for the 2024/25 academic year are:

  • £2,000 for students on full-time courses
  • £1,000 for students on part-time courses

 

DSA Equipment Top-Up Fund

The Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) Equipment Top-Up Fund helps students cover their required contribution towards the cost of assistive technology provided by DSA. The maximum reimbursement amount is £200.

 

Digital Hardship Fund

The Digital Hardship Fund supports students with a household income of below £43,000 a year to purchase essential IT equipment (e.g. laptop, printer, head-phones), via store credit with the John Smith Group.

 

International Students’ Emergency Fund

The International Students’ Emergency Fund offers short-term financial support to international students experiencing significant disruptions to their funding due to un-expected emergency situations (e.g. natural disasters, civil unrest, conflict).

 

Graduation Support Fund

The Graduation Support Fund provides financial assistance to students who need help covering the costs associated with attending graduation (e.g. gown hire, travel expenses).
