Educational Resources for Allies

An "ally" is a supporter and/or advocate for LGBTQ+ people. It is most used to refer to heterosexual people (a "straight ally") who support their lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and queer friends and family members. The term also encompasses LGBTQ+ people who support each other.

Excluded: Making Feminist and Queer Movements More Inclusive by Julia Serano A book that challenges divisions within feminist and queer communities.

Moonlight (2016) An Oscar-winning drama that explores the life of a young black man grappling with his sexuality.
Disclosure: Trans Lives On Screen (2020) A documentary that explores the representation of transgender people in Hollywood.
Beautiful Thing (1996) Teen boys discover love in a London suburb and find acceptance.
My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) British-Pakistani man revives laundrette, explores love and race.
