Introduction: Oluwasola Adesulu, Project Co-Founder
The TEDx project at the University of Law provides a platform for students to develop and refine key skills associated with events/conference production. Skills such as project management, teamwork, fundraising, logistics planning, and others. It also provides an avenue for students to meet and network with students & staff from various ULaw campuses and professionals across different industries. It was truly a pleasure to see the first edition successfully happen on the Manchester campus. It remains a desire for us to see how students use the skills they have developed and the relationships they have built to further their professional development.
Getting involved: Renu Guntur, President, TEDx Society
Serving as the President of TEDx University of Law Manchester has been one of the most transformative experiences of my personal and professional journey. As the first-ever TEDx event hosted at the University of Law, it was not only a milestone for the institution but also a deeply personal one for me.
With limited time and countless moving parts, time management quickly became both a challenge and a lesson. From coordinating logistics to managing speakers, every moment required clarity, composure, and unwavering focus. Yet, with a dedicated team and support from the Students' Union, we turned a tight schedule into a memorable experience. Throughout the project, I honed critical skills - leadership, event planning, and conflict resolution. One of the most testing yet rewarding aspects was working through speaker coordination for the brochure and posters of event. Gathering and refining speaker profiles required diplomacy, patience, and perseverance—but seeing each speaker shine on stage made it all worthwhile.
The day of the event was magical. Every speaker brought their unique story to life, and witnessing the audience rise in a standing ovation for Dr Hewa Balisane’s talk was a moment I’d never forget. It wasn’t just applause—it was recognition of ideas worth spreading and the hard work that went into curating them.
As President, I was closely involved in every layer of the event—procurement, logistics, marketing, budgeting, and volunteer coordination. Working cross-functionally taught me how to lead not just with direction but with empathy.
I want to especially thank SU Co-President (Union Development) Uche Adika, and Oluwasola O'Adesulu - Project Manager of TEDx University of Law Manchester, for their invaluable support. Their guidance gave me the confidence to push boundaries, take initiative, and do my very best. I’m also deeply grateful to all our incredible team leads and dedicated team members—without whom none of this would have been possible. Their creativity, commitment, and tireless efforts brought the TEDx vision to life and made this first-ever event at ULaw truly extraordinary. Every late-night planning session, brainstorming call, and on-the-ground hustle was a testament to their passion and belief in what we were building together.
The response we received was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees expressed their gratitude for a platform that celebrated innovation and diversity of thought. It was heartening to see our efforts inspire others and create a lasting impact within the university community.
To future student leaders stepping into the TEDx world—trust your team, lean into challenges, and never underestimate the power of collective vision. Leadership is not about doing it all but about empowering others to rise with you.
Organising TEDx University of Law Manchester wasn’t just about delivering an event—it was about shaping a legacy.
